Rooted Integrative Medical Clinic is a direct primary care practice, meaning we operate on a concierge-style model that provides high-quality care at an affordable, membership-based rate. DPC is similar to concierge, and is a simplified, patient-centered approach to healthcare. For a fixed monthly fee, you receive comprehensive primary care services and direct access to your doctor. DPC eliminates the insurance middleman, allowing your doctor to provide more personalized care with convenient access and focus on your overall wellness, without being constrained by the limitations and financial priorities of insurance companies.
-
We provide a similar level of personalized care as concierge practices, but with key differences. Traditional concierge practices bill your insurance and require copays on top of their annual retainer fee.
Rooted operates on a direct primary care (DPC) model, making our services accessible to everyone, regardless of insurance status. We offer a more affordable, month-to-month membership.

While yearly checkups are a good start, true health is built on ongoing care, not just a quick visit once a year. Our membership offers consistent support and guidance to help you achieve your health goals.
Think of it like a gym membership: you invest in your well-being and use the services as much or as little as you need. As a member of Rooted, you have unparalleled access to your physician via call, text, or email when you need them.
Our model allows us to dedicate more time to each patient, minimizing wait times and ensuring you receive personalized attention.

Even if you're healthy now, Direct Primary Care (DPC) offers benefits that go beyond addressing illness. At Rooted, we focus not only on treating health conditions but also on keeping you healthy through preventive care, early detection, and personalized wellness plans. Being part of a DPC practice means you have more direct access to your physician, allowing you to prioritize your long-term health.
Through regular check-ins and comprehensive assessments, we can help you stay on top of your wellness goals, whether that means optimizing nutrition, managing stress, or staying proactive with screenings. Plus, if any health issues do arise, you'll have the peace of mind knowing that you can quickly and easily reach your doctor, without the delays or barriers of traditional healthcare. Joining Rooted is an investment in maintaining your health and preventing potential future issues. We’ll offer ongoing support and personalized guidance tailored to you.
-
Absolutely. Our membership complements, but doesn't replace, your health insurance. We encourage you to keep your insurance for expenses beyond primary care, such as hospital stays, specialist visits, and surgeries. Your insurance may also help cover prescription costs.
-
No. DPC practices choose not to bill insurance to eliminate the insurance middleman. We believe that the insurance-based system often results in impersonal, fragmented, and reactive care. The DPC model is designed to keep patients healthy and thriving by offering personalized, unrushed care at an affordable price. Our decisions are guided by what’s best for the patient, not by the financial interests of insurance companies or corporate health systems. Patients are welcome to use their insurance for specialist visits, imaging, or medications if they choose.

We’re glad you asked. We do not provide obstetric care and do not do surgeries. We do not provide chronic opioid, suboxone or benzodiazepine management. Dr. Shaw is not a specialist and if we believe you would need a specialist for one or more of your conditions, we will facilitate that referral for you.
